The Mat Weavers Ministry was co founded and created by Pastor Gregory S. Coleman and Bob Dewille. Our mission is to do whatever we can teach volunteers how to weave sleeping mats out of plastic grocery bags, raise awareness of homelessness, and to do what we can to make a homeless persons life just a tiny bit better.
Right now, there are millions of people in the United States and around the world living outside in the woods, under bridges, in abandon buildings and on our streets. Many of them ex veterans who voluntarily served our country and defended its freedoms.
Sleeping mats are weaved out of plastic grocery bags on a loom. It takes approximately 1000 to 1,500 bags to make 1 mat. They are durable and made to last for years. They are water proof and will keep a homeless person clean and dry. Bugs dont like them, and they are easy to pick up and carry from one place to the next. Best of all, they are a great way to upcycle used plastic bags and keep them out of our lakes, rivers, oceans, dumps and landfills.
About 2 million plastic bags are used around the world every minute. It is estimated that it takes approximately 20 years or longer for them to decompose. Our ministry is a win/win in the fact that each mat we make not only makes a homeless persons life a little better, they also keep 1000 to 1,500 bags per mat from littering and destroying our planet.
We are also a Christian based ministry. Our motto is ” to do what is good and right” Each mat is prayed over and blessed and comes with a small peice of Christian literature in a little plastic bag, with the hope that Jesus might save some.
In closing, we would like to encourage you to join us in our mission to help the homeless. Collect bags, cut bags for us, purchase one of our looms and learn to weave.
As this site matures and develops, there will be pictures and step by step videos and tutorials on how to do this step by step. Bob also has videos, pictures and tutorials all over his facebook account on how to do all of this and if need be, he is more than willing to hold a teaching class in person anywhere in Williams County, Ohio.
So join us. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
